What gear is required?

Mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit (1mm minimum thickness, full arms, full legs is
recommend) , rubber weight belt, weights, timing device ( water proof with the ability to count time.)

What gear is nice to have?

It’s nicer to have long blade fins, although any fins will work. It’s nice to have a 2 piece 3mm open cell wetsuit, although any wetsuit will work. It’s nice to have a freediving computer, although any timing device with the ability to count seconds will work.

What gear do I need to bring with me?

Bring it to the pool and ocean sessions. Please bring ALL of your gear to both sessions.

Do you have gear I can rent?

Yes, we do limited dive computers and fins. Please contact Florida Freedivers to inquire about and reserve which computer you would like to rent for your course to ensure it will be available for you.

What can I do to physically prepare before the course?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Thirsty? Much too late. Take a ONE GALLON bottle of water with you each morning, and finish it during the day. Start doing this at least one day before the course to ensure you are hydrated for your first day of class. That’s the MINIMUM you’ll need to consume during this course to stay hydrated. Every class has a few students who don’t think this is important, and show up with little baby bottles of water, with cups of coffee, or soda pop. These are always the students who have trouble equalizing, extending their breath-holds and in general getting the least accomplished. If you’re not getting that urge to visit the bathroom every hour or so, you’re not hydrating properly!

Consider abstaining from all caffeinated beverages throughout the course. Caffeine is not a freediver’s friend. With that being said, you know what you need to function, so listen to your body as we want you to feel well and be attentive during the course.

Have a couple of your favorite power bars with you. There will likely be times when you’ll want a carb boost, but heavy food in the stomach does not mix well with freediving.

What can I do to mentally prepare for the course?

Open your mind. No matter what your previous freediving experience, please come into the course ready to learn. Some students come into the course believing they know almost everything there is to know, which makes a person hard to teach. So, be open and ready to learn everything, even if you think we’re going over a section you think you already know about. A willingness to learn and take instruction will greatly improve your experience in the course and how much you allow your freediving to advance.

I actually can’t make the course I signed up for, can I reschedule?

You can reschedule, but we’ve already committed to the pool and boat that you’ll be in the course. We have fees that we’ve committed to for you, so if you need to change your dates there will be a $150 rescheduling fee to cover the costs associated with your spot in the course that we are not able to recuperate. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to reschedule.
